John is a graduate of Leeds Metropolitan University (UK) with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours). John then attended the College of Law in York (UK) and attained a Diploma in Law before attending the Inns of Court School of Law in London where he passed the Bar Exams.
John was admitted as Barrister in 1997 and practised at the Bar in London, Cardiff as well as many other provincial cities.
Prior to arriving in Australia, John practised as In-House Counsel for a regional firm in South Wales (UK) and specialised in family law, personal injury and medical negligence matters.
Upon his arrival in Australia in 2003, John was admitted to practise as a Barrister in New South Wales and in Queensland.
John was later admitted to practise in Western Australia in 2005.
From 2004 until late 2010, John was employed as a family lawyer with a medium-sized firm in the Perth CBD. During that time, he had sole responsibility for developing that firm's family law department from a handful of matters to a file load that required three full-time family lawyers. John became a partner of that firm in 2007 until his departure at the end of 2010.
John joined Klimek & Co Family Lawyers in late 2010 as a Director and oversees all administrative matters at the firm in addition to the conduct of a very wide range of client files. John represents clients whose matters range from straight forward consent matters through to complicated financial and children's matters.
John routinely deals with matters involving complex financial issues and structures such as trading companies, partnerships, trusts, businesses and other ventures.
John has considerable experience as an advocate and a litigator. He has been Counsel in trials both in the UK and in Western Australia. Whilst in the UK he had right of audience up to and including the House of Lords and has appeared in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
John is a qualified mediator who has had extensive experience in dealing with alternative dispute resolution.
John is a member of the following professional organisations:
- Law Society of Western Australia;
- Family Law Practitioners Association of Western Australia; and
- The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.
When not practising family law, John could most likely be found playing golf or working out at the gym. Prior to studying law, John was a semi-pro tennis player and following injury took up professional tennis umpiring for five years, during which he umpired internationally, including at Wimbledon, the French Open and the US Open.
